Originally bought an OldTown but too heavy, returned it and got a Hobie.
First time kayaking, managed to get into water. About 15 mins into the water, flipped the kayak. I believe it's because I didn't secure the seat correctly, as I tried to put the paddle in position and flipped.
While I managed flip the kayak back up, I wasn't able to get myself back on it. 2 boats passed by, I believe second one heard me but kind busy on the phone. Was just going to enjoy the water while floating. Third boat pass by and this wonderful lady, Daniella, saved me. She even helped to retrieve my paddle and fish net.
Lesson:
Bring a whistle
Kayak with couple people to start
Secure anything that you should secure.
(Lost the rod, rod holder, tools , and box of tackle and lures. Luckily I kept the phone and key in zipped pocket)
Anyone who kayak fishing out Oyster Bay Long Island please DM, I and planning to kayak on weekday during the day, can gladly use help and companies.
Also, does it help if I put weight inside the hull to stable the kayak? I weight only 100lb and the kayak can carry more, would put something in the hull if helps to keep it stable.
