The base of my new reel is too fat and it seems like it was ment for a bigger rod blank because whenever I try to twist the cap down fully it stops because the attachment part of reel is too fat, the last slide is about as far as I can get it without forcing it and on the second slide is where the reel seat got bent a little from me forcing it. Should I sand the attachment part of the reel down a hair? Should I just force it and not worry about it? Is the damage from me forcing is something to really worry about?

I have never heard of this issue before. It shouldn’t need to be forced and would just fit snug. What rod are you using?
