I'd imagine it is for you to be able to rest your rod and reel on the floor and not get dirt in it; it may also offers a little counter weight to the handle and make it slightly more balanced. Seen it before on spinning reels but don't know what's the use or what it is called. Anyone can chime in? Thanks.

Keeps reel out of the mud when you lay it down
Gomexus reel stand. Keeps your bail from getting fucked up from laying it down. I have them on all my spinning reel now after bending my bail once. Super nice to not have to worry about putting rods on deck and making sure the bail is facing up, with the stand it’ll just never touch. They’re like $10
