Everyone always talks about the Expride 7’3XH. If you look anywhere online you can find dozens of reviews on them. But why spend $300 on a frog rod? Earlier this year I noticed that for almost $100 cheaper you can buy a Curado 7’3XH with almost the same exact specs. I decided to give the rod a try and i’ve got to say, I’m not sure why nobody talks about it. It’s definitely not cheap, but it’s very nice and worth the price IMO. The weight is great for walking a frog for long periods of time and it has a ton of power. While the Expride is rated as a “Mod-Fast” and the Curado is rated as “Fast” the actions are very similar. I do not own a 7’3XH in the Expride but I have checked them out in store several times and own the 7’2MH and 7’2H, both fast action. The Expride line borders on extra fast, so the Mod-fast action seemed more similar to a fast action than anything. The Curado 7’3”XH, while rated as fast, has plenty of give to handle walking a bait and using straight braid. It is not parabolic by any means, but it’s not extra fast either. I highly recommend it to anyone who is in the market for a nice frogging set up. I own a Dobyns 736C that is also touted as a great frog rod that retails for the same as an Expride, although can be found on sale regularly, and I put the Curado right up there with it. Hope this helps someone. Tight lines everyone.
