I’ve been getting lazy lately and using snap swivels tied to my line for quick lure changing and what not. Well I started today and hit a decent bass on my first cast on a top water frog. Well my third cast I throw my frog, in the thicket of the lilies I get a HUGE blowup and my line tanks. I have this big boy on the line and he jumps like 3 feet out of the water does a twirl and rips my frog right off of my swivel. Needless to say I am beyond dissapointed because he definitely would’ve been PB had that not happened. I’m going back to tying directly to my line unless a swivel is called for at this point. Okay, end of rant

Those style of snaps just aren’t very good. I’ve had these ones fail on me too, but the “cross lock” style ones ([here’s](https://gamakatsu.com/product/cross-lock-snap-with-superline-swivel/?gQT=0) an example) hold up way better. Have yet to break one

It’s all about the snap design. This snap design has always been abysmal especially after some heavy usage. Duo locking snap design is 1000x better and stronger in all aspects.
I used those swivel snaps growing up. I just started getting back into fishing years later. I’ve seen duolock snaps recommended instead. I’ve been using them all summer without issue.
I’ve only had cheap snaps do that, and on logs. So my fault really.
Higher strength ones don’t do that. I use them even when fishing cranks for king salmon. Those hit way harder than a bass out of the lillies when they crush a crank.
To play devils advocate, knots can fail too. You should be testing your swivel and your snaps integrity every so often the same way you check your line for fray and your knots to see if they’ve gone loose.
This was probably preventable.
Out of hundreds of fish caught, I’ve never had this happen to me. I like those odds. If this happens once every 800 fish I wouldn’t even be mad.
