I just purchased this Abu Garcia Baitcaster combo. I currently have a $30 shakespeare walmart spinning reel, and I do shore fishing in Westchester County, NY. Mostly looking for bass and maybe some trout. I've been fishing semi-seriously for just a few months.
My first thought was to put some 15 lb braid on it and a mono leader, but it's my first baitcaster, so I am open to advice on how to set it up. What should I put on, how much?
I am wide open to any suggestions. For lures I use a lot of senkos right now but I am hoping to try some topwater frogs etc. with the baitcaster. Thanks!

15lb braid will dig into itself,25-30lb braid is what you want. You probably aren’t gonna be able to throw anything much under 1/4 oz. You can get as low as about an 1/8 but it won’t go very far, and you have to drop the brakes and tension pretty loose to get it to work well with that light of a lure. So you might want to stick with the spinning rod for the trout.
