I see folks ask about it enough that I figured I share how I side mounted my motor while simultaneously raising my seat.
I had a chunk of pressure treated 4×4 left over from a job. It already had the channel mortised out of it. It was the perfect height to raise my seat. I connected to the boat using angle aluminum and stainless screws. Everything sealed with silicone.
For the motor mount I used a piece of cedar 2×4. It is screwed in to both the 4×4 and mounted to the boat using more angle aluminum. Aluminum is great for use on kayaks
– it’s very strong but can be cut with a wood cutting blade. I used my miter saw.
– it doesn’t rust
– readily available (like everything else pictured, except boat, motor and battery ) at any hardware store.
Side mounting isn’t perfect but it gets the job done. Once you figure out how your boat reacts to the uneven thrust, steering her straight will become second nature.
Hope this helps.

I have a very similar setup, but I use the rear facing flush rod holders to mount the 2×4. Works great. It’s very easy to steer straight, although I have the 12ft PDL
Damn did you come all the way from New York to fish there?
Nice work on the mount. I used to use a milk crate with a 2×4 bolted to it. Then bungee cord the crate to the pad eyes around the tank well. Battery on one side of the crate was a counterweight to the motor. It worked surprisingly well.
