Just upgraded to a Daiwa Regal 2500 and a Daiwa Aird X 7’0 Medium Fast
Was using a $20 Zebco reel and a Shakespeare Excursion 7’0 medium from Walmart
I’m mainly targeting largemouth fishing from banks but also want a setup with a pretty good range of ability as it will be my only main rod.
I use a lot of soft plastics especially texas rigs but am starting to branch out into other largemouth lures.
The first time using the aird x, it felt like it had much less of a backbone and I’m worried I won’t be able to set hooks when throwing texas rigged senko especially when I rig them weightless and need a good hook set. I also may just not be used to the new rod. Should a medium fast aird x be fine for what I’m looking for, or should I look for more of a medium heavy rod?
Thanks in advance!

This is a fine combo for a do it all first setup. Maybe the best $100ish combo I can think of
I also just got this exact same combo, works great. I’ve caught a ton of bass so far, nothing huge, but I did land a nice 3lb one the other day. I’d stick with it if I were you.
I have 3 of these reels in different sizes. For the money they are awesome
As long as the rod supports the weight of what you’re throwing, medium power should be fine. It sounds like your old rod has a fast or extra fast action while this one might only have a moderate fast action. Faster action is better for soft plastics, but it makes for a less versatile rod in my opinion. You should be able to do just fine with your current setup, especially since you want it to be more of an all-arounder.
