Background: fishing freshwater rivers and ponds for bass mostly.

I have a new 6’6” ugly stik with stock reel. My dad gave me his old gear and one of the items is Daiwa SS tournament 1300. Unused for probably over a decade. It seems to move smooth. Is this a better reel even with its age? Can I do anything to clean it up some?

Thanks all. I’m very new to fishing so just hoping to get some perspective on this

I still fish one of those in the 1600 size. It’s a fantastic old school reel that is durable and casts far – basically a mini long cast reel. Only thing that sucks is the lack of instant anti reverse but it’s not a total deal breaker. You could always get a shop to do a cleaning if you can’t do it yourself.
