Got this quantum strive, 9ft surf combo. Hadn’t paid attention until I was getting it ready to get it spooled for use this past weekend and saw that the two pieces don’t sit flush, has anyone else seen this, is this normal or did someone switch out the top piece? In the pic, that is all it goes in. I think it should go in more but i am not certain. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe dirt or something lodged into the female end?
Measure it, is it the intended length or is it long? I have a Daiwa rod that does this same thing, never had an issue with it, but it does look odd.
Its fine. Thats how a lot of new rods are these days. Its basically a wear indicator. By the time the two black bands sit flush with one another when the rod is put together – its time for a new rod.
A surf rod I just bought I had this problem too. My issue was that the rubber plug that they put in the top piece was too wide to slide into the rod like it’s supposed to. I couldn’t separate them or adjust the time to line up the eyes. I had to cut the rubber a bit.
