    Hard bottom, rocks

Composite Medium power moderate action rod 7′ – 7’4″ baitcaster. That’s my setup for it 🫡

Light line and medium light or light rod. I cast this on a braided line and fluoro or mono leader. Reel fast then slow the retrieve. It will dive and stay at 1′-4′.

  3. Medium rod, your choice of line 6-10 pound range, rod straight up as you cast into rocks, it will bump and thump around, if you feel it hang up let off the pressure , assuming it suspends it should float off whatever its caught on, if the line move on its own (aka a fish takes it) after it gets hung up do your best Kevin Van Dam impression.

I fish these a lot for smallie and pike. I tend to like heavier line for the range I gave, usually 8 or 10 pound mono, and if its murky I will fish with a leader, clear I will fish without. (Sometimes I will fish with my medium light and 6lb, but use 12 pound floro leader).

I have a limited number of balsa mini square bills like this, but the standard gander mountain, Rapala, etc suspending square bill does good work.

I had really good luck with a medium light rod that was 6’6″. Lighter pound line will work better. If you have an ultralight fishing rod, that will work better.

One of my favorite lures. Have caught large and smallmouth, catfish, and more panfish than I can count on one of these. Though I prefer the “sexy chad” pattern. Just cast and retrieve, give a pause every now and then. You won’t get a ton of distance but it gets bites. Lighter rod and line will be a bit easier but I throw it on a setup that’s meant to throw much heavier things and it works fine.

  6. light line. probably a medium or medium light action rod. i would throw that on a spinning reel or spin cast setup. looking like a pretty shallow diving crank bait. bang it off some rocks it’ll be perfect.
