I would take the SLX, but it’s not a 100% slam dunk these days. Kast king reels aren’t trash, I’d be curious to know more about the mag brake in their reel since the marketing sounds like it’s not a typical generic magtrax type. I would personally spend an extra $50 and get a Tat 100 over either of them.

  2. I only have experience with Shimano Curado DC. I loved it so much I bought a second one. I have tried the SLX and that’s pretty damn nice as well. I’d have to go with Shimano SLX.

Shimano fs but man if you can wait and save an extra $100 you can get a curado 150 or a 200 and I PROMISE you will not regret it. Just picked up a 200MHG for about 180 at Bass pro and it’s amazing! SLX is awesome don’t get me wrong but you will very quickly want something more.

  4. Kast King is like a Hyundai, the brand is not as known as Shimano but are coming up fast.

Better buy is saving the 30 extra marginal dollars and just getting the SLX XT. It’s an a incredible reel for the price point If you’re looking for a versatile workhorse. In the SLX lineup the reel that I’ve liked the most so far is the $150 70. But this might not work the best for bigger baits and power fishing applications as I mostly use it for finesse techniques.

The Kastking is probably perfectly decent but Shimano has its reputation for a reason.

  7. Shimano and it’s so clear glass can’t compete. KK is acceptable if you have no money or cannot get shimano and Daiwa. That’s about it.
