I’ve been targeting catfish in a large river that flows into Lake Michigan. It’s a popular fishing area and I’ve seen huge cats pulled out of the river. I’ve been fishing a Carolina rig with 20lb braid, 2oz egg sinker, heavy duty swivel, 20lb floro and a #3 circle hook baited with night crawlers. I’ve fished this rigs a few evenings over the past couple weeks and caught nothing, yesterday I changed it up and used an egg sinker, 12” floro to a 3 way swivel, mainline on one end and about 6” of floro and the same hook and bait as before. I copied this from what I saw another fisherman doing. I caught two 12” catfish in an hour with this rig.
Is there really a difference between these presentations or did I just get lucky after switching things up?
