Pliers are great, but hemostat forceps are absolutely amazing! Get yourself an assortment of different sizes for different sized fish/set depths, they come in cheap packs on amazon.

Unlike pliers they typically have a much longer reach and much narrower profile. Haven’t come across something I can’t remove, even a treble hook set 3+ inches into the throat of a smallmouth.
Also, they are locking, so once you clamp down on a hook, you don’t have to worry about your grip slipping if the fish decides to thrash

Harbor Freight has them too.

100%. I grabbed a pair when I started flyfishing because holding those small flys is hard! Now they’ve totally replaced pliers for me.

Absolutely. I came to this realization after burying all 3 hook points in multiple bluegill and fallfish’s lips

I have a set and they’re awesome. You can just clip them on your shirt so they’re always handy
