Old guy returning to fishing. Picked up Vanford 3000 with Dobyns sierra 703.
Fresh water lake fishing from shore. What would be the recommended weight of braid for targeting bass?

I used to love fishing as a teen, but then life gets in the way. Braid wasn't even a thing back then, it seems so thin.

10lb Braid, I’m running 10lb braid on my Vanford for similar techniques and it’s great.

  2. I run 15lb PowerPro on all my freshwater rods. I vary fluorocarbon leaders from 4-12lb depending on species and conditions.

Between 10-20. I prefer 15, but there’s no wrong answer. Lotta ppl running 8 mono and fluoro for finesse, but I feel like I’m missing too many bites that way

    Nice setup

Something around 0.20mm diameter, different manufacturers will have different sizes/lb ratings so always check the charts. Bulk out the spool with 4lb mono, you really only need about 100-150y of braid.

I use 15 lb with this exact rod, but with a 3000-size reel you may want to go with 20 lb.

  6. 10lbs braid. I like suffix 832, nice quality and holds up well without having to get too crazy. Thin enough to get distance. Use a leader of your choice.
