Finally spent $15 on a good lure. 3 casts later, a freakin alligator grabs it as soon as I cast it. More info in comments.
It’s stupid I know, but I actually fought him for around 10 minutes. I was on a Paddle Board, but when I realized he was about 5 feet, I knew my lure was gone. I finally gained common sense and cut the line. Goodbye $15 😂.
