Been trying out some topwater during the night after sunset and been getting some decent results. Caught one 4 pound largemouth on a frog and a dink on a whopper plopper, but alot of my night was actually missing bites/hooksets especially on my frog. I would hear my frog get splashed and I’d feel a tug on my line but when I go for the hookset I feel like either the fish missed it entirely or I pull it out of the fishes mouth without the hooks catching. Any tips and tricks for fishing with a frog at night? I have been casting diagonal to the bank and giving it a slow pop pop retrieve. I also tried a buzzbait but I unfortunately flung it straight off my line into the midnight depths of the lake. RIP Buzz lightyear.

I usually cut down the legs on my frogs by about 50%, seems to help lower the amount of short strikes I get.
Try pausing for a couple seconds before you set the hook, you need to give the fish a chance to really eat it. Set the hook HARD too, a MH or H power rod helps a lot.
Are you tying your frog direct to braid? I would recommend that. No stretch on the braid lets you get more powerful hooksets.
