Every knot I try whether it’s a Alberto knot, uni knot, FG knot it doesn’t work. I’m trying to connect a 15lb braid to a 15lb fluoro (I know a lower lb leader would be better for 15lb braid but I’m working with what I got) and the braid just keeps slipping right off the fluoro every time I try to tie a knot, it just doesn’t tighten and lock in place.

  1. Watch Briggsys fg knot. Impossible for it to slip if done right.

A quick way would also be a double uni knot

  2. use uni to uni, using the braid tie uni over leader, using leader tie uni over braid. pull tight and the two knots will stop and hold eachother. just tying one uni knot will not hold.

  3. Maybe try a uni-to-uni knot. It’s a bit easier for some people than an FG or Alberto knot.

  4. Double uni knot or nail knot is generally the way to go when it comes to connecting lines of different diameter.

  5. I do double Uni for my 15lb braid to 20lb or 12lb fluro. Usually 6 wraps for mono and then 8-10 for the braid. Never had any issues except when i try to be stingy and make the tail too short. Make sure you hawk tua on the knot before tightening it helps make the wraps slip and sit nicely.

15 to 15 should be no problem for Alberto. Are you making enough wraps? Traditional recommendations for 7 wraps for Alberto will not be enough for modern slick braids. Alberto will also fail if you thread the line through the exit loop from the wrong side. And of course you need to cross the wraps evenly.

For 15lb I use double Uni. Do 10-12 turns and for the braid Uni. 5 turns for the mono.

  8. Here’s a pro tip for Alberto knots, buy some trout magnet floats and use them to hold your leaders loop while you wrap the braid, infinitely easier.
