Went fishing today after a while but my brothers been fishing while I was away he was using pretty big hooks he said he gut hooked 5 fish only 3 he was able to remove the hook from. Then today his rod still had a big hook and it caught a fish and went super close to the eye we couldn’t get the hook out without damaging the eye and it was just really stuck in there we both have a lot of experience with removing hooks but just couldn’t get this one out so we cut the line and let the fish go.
1. Are the overly big hooks causing these bad bites for the fish? That’s what I concluded to myself but I want to make sure. They’re about 1-2 inches big and we’re fishing in ponds. I’ve always been used to fishing with hooks a fraction of the size. I assume those big hooks are meant for big fish?
2. How come all my bobbers keep floating upside down. I put the line through the white part then the red on the bottom but when I cast they still go upside down
3. Did the fish probably die when we released it? 😢

Sorry the pics are bad I tried to highlight the upside down bobbers and the hook that’s in the fish
