Hi everyone,

I just spotted an offer on Daiwa Fuego LT 4000 DCXH (99 cm retrieve per crank, ~230 g, 12 kg drag, 6.2:1 ratio) and I’m thinking of pairing it with the Shimano Nexave 8’10” M (2.69 m, 7–35 g, moderate-fast action).

I’m based in Spain, and my fishing is pretty mixed throughout the year:

Freshwater: rivers, lakes and reservoirs (bass, perch, pike).

Saltwater: rías, rocky shores, beaches, harbors, and occasionally from a boat (targeting sea bass, bluefish, mackerel, etc.).

Lures I normally use: topwaters, minnows, crankbaits, soft plastics, jigs (and maybe occasional eging for squid/cuttlefish).

My goal is to find a versatile spinning combo that balances well:

The Nexave M (7–35 g) covers a good lure range.

The Fuego LT 4000 is light and smooth, but I’m wondering if it might be slightly oversized for this rod.

  1. Considering the diverse fishing scenarios you intend to cover with a single combo, it’s nearly impossible to define the specs of one that would be great in all so, it would have to be a compromise for some. It seems to me that the rod is a bit too long for most of the time unless you need maximum casting distance and you fish saltwater from the bank a lot.
And yes, the reel might also be a bit too big and would add weight without any extra benefit. A 3000 size would do the job nicely.
