This angler uses the G Loomis GCX Inshore Rod, which i googled has a Lure Weight of 5/8oz, yet he's putting on 2 and 3oz sinkers along with hooks, bait/lures. I thought the whole lure setup (hooks, sinkers, lures, etc) should not exceed the "Lure Weight" rating.???

Can somehow please explain how this works? I am looking for a rod that can hold up to 2/2.5 oz for some NYC pier fishing but would prefer a smaller lighter rod. Most rods that can handle 2-3oz of lure weight seems to be on the Heavy side.

  1. His rod is likely a different weight than what you saw on google. There’s no way he’s casting a 3 oz sinker effectively with a rod rated up to 5/8 oz. You should try to keep your weight within the range on the rod and I personally don’t like even putting on the “max” weight because I can feel the difference in casting. Look into a 7 or 8 ft medium or medium heavy
