This is an old Shakespeare 9ft MH rod that I’m hoping to use as a surf rod in NorCal. I am not familiar with surf fishing as all, but this road just seems so heavy and bulky. I bought a 4000 Daiwa Fuego for the sole purpose of saltwater fishing, and I want to pay with with a surf rod. For comparison I have a chapstick and the original reel that came with the rod. Is the 4000 reel too small for this rod, and will it always look this tiny on a surf rod?

Sorry for the typos, but I think the description is still understandable. I see that a lot of surf rods are rated for up to 4oz which gives me the impression that they will all be thick and heavy. Is this true? I’m looking to fish for surf perch and striper
Yeah, I’d probably go with 5k/6k reel for salt/surf. What is the line rating on the rod, though?
