I seem to only have this issue with braided line. When spooling it on I’m sure to keep tension on the line and put the spool of line on a small dowel so it doesn’t get twisted, but this still happens. Suggestions are appreciated.

That can also be caused by using the auto trip feature on the reel. Make sure you manually close the bail after casting, and that you have tension on your line when you begin to reel. If you don’t you’ll have loose loops on the spool which can cause this.
