My dad is getting on in his years and decided that he wasn't going to be using any of his tackle anymore. If he goes fishing he'll go with me (his loving daughter) so I'm the lucky recipient. In his collection of lures and treasures, I find a strange rat lure. What the H kind of fish is this for? It has a rattle to it. There's all kinds of plastics, minnows, spinners and weights and you name it, he said he always just bought stuff to have it.
Anyway, it's a great gift to say the least. I'm having a ball going through all the stuff.

Rat lure could be a top water. I’ve heard largemouth bass, pike and musky will hit them
Bass or big brown trout. I’ve seen one hit the top and eat a duckling. Any top water predator really.
Lucky.
Edit: I just looked up the stamp on the back, it’s a vintage Heddon Zara mouse lure. Pretty cool!
I’ve seen rat/mice lures do really well for tiger trout in utah.
He just gave you a ton of his golden memories. Cherish them!
