From the US.. (northeast). Keep chummin' the water with oats/jello and throwing corn on a dropshot rig (8 baitholder hook)… Problem is all the bluegill and sunnies keep stealing the bait. I try to crumple bread around it too and it dissolves or is taken. What do I do to keep it around long enough for the carp to come around?
For more info, I'm fishing the rising tide of a small lake connected to a river. The area is somewhat busy.. tried night fishing to no avail.

One thing that could help is making sure the hookbait you got isnt easy to steal. Using fake corn or perhaps a decent sized boilie or chunk of diced potato. And the chum could also include bits and pieces or varying size. Some smaller feed to for the sunnies to pick at while the carp pick at the larger bits such as boilies or potato or something. And above all else be patient. Dont just throw loads of free feed at the carp..watch smaller fish go for it..then assume you wont get bites.
