The job site I’m on is a pump station so there’s a little pond near it that I like to go fishing in. I’ve already caught a few bass using Texas Rig on 10-15lb rated line. I assume that these Buffalo would break my line in an instant, and I’ve also seen alligator gar down here.
Can anyone tell me a good rod and reel setup that’s not too expensive that can handle about 50lbs? Thinking about just throwing a hook on it with some old hotdogs and throwing it in there and seeing what happens.

The rod is something called like a “Big Cat” or something from Walmart, I’m pretty sure it’s a river rod but it said the line is anywhere from 10-20lbs
