Hei,
This is a follow-up to my first post to give you some feedback on my trip to Norway. (https://www.reddit.com/r/flyfishing/comments/1mznrkp/advice_request_for_flyfishing_during_a_hiking/)
First of all, thank you to everyone who gave me advice that proved very useful during my trip and the Vak Fluefisk shop, where the owner took the time with me to choose the best flies for my trip and recommend me some rivers !
This trip was our honeymoon with my newlywed wife. It wasn't specifically for fishing, but I had four opportunities to fish during our 14-day trip. We travelled in a loop from Oslo to Ringebu, Lom, Stryn, Vossvangen, Odda, Rjukan and back to Oslo in a camper van.
The first fishing session was planned. I used Google Maps/Street View to find beautiful rivers suited to my fishing technique and inatur.no for regulations and to purchase a fishing licence. I found a beautiful spot on the banks of the Sjoa River near the Sjodalen campsite, which I highly recommend! Unfortunately, the weather was not on my side that day, and I didn't see a single trout despite more than three hours of relentless effort in the rain and wind.
The second trip was completely improvised during a long journey when I had three hours to spare. I crossed a bridge over the Otta river near the village of Bruvoll, just upstream from Dønfossen. Here I had a pretty good catch with several (seven or eight) fish between 20 and 25 centimetres.
Like the second session, the third session was an impromptu morning session after an impromptu stop at the side of the road just before Førde. The weather was very mild and I caught a lot of fish, including about ten between 20 and 27 centimetres, but once again, no big trout. However, I noticed and had many bites from small and very small trouts (8 to 15 cm), which proves that reproduction in this river is excellent!
The last fishing session on the Smøkleppåi River just upstream from Vinje was the last of my stay. Unfortunately, it was neither long nor productive. The rain that day and in previous days had raised the river level by more than 30 centimetres, so I didn't stand a chance.
I especially thank my wife for allowing me to bring my equipment and go fishing on our honeymoon.
