I got experience fishing but never with anything I’ve had to set up or buy myself would this rod work (ugly stik) for catfish and bass or anything here in northern Indiana and not explode (had something snap my gifted 4tf crappie rod recently) and I lack the funds for anything too expensive sadly

Probably work for catfish and bass. I prefer a medium rod for bass. Berkeley makes the cherrywood hd in a 7’ medium and you could pair that with a 3000 size Shimano fx reel and sans line that should run you around $50
Oh for sure! Ugly Stik’s are notorious for their strength, and that one being a MH 7′ it should be more than fine.
If that snaps on bass or catfish, well you’re probably pulling too hard or you’re not hooked on a catfish/bass!
I love my ugly stik catfish combo lol
