I’m a fairly new fisherman. I have a spinning rod also but it was cheap and the handle kept falling off so I got something nicer. I listened after I posted here and got a daiwa tatula rod. I was looking for a daiwa bait caster as well but they didn’t have anything in my price range so I settled on this shimano SLX dc 7.2

I’m new to bait casting but will be trying for some bass at my local lake. Any tips or ideas for best bait for this setup?

  1. Texas rigs are a go to a wacky rig with a vmc wacky rig jig is great too try creature baits Texas rigged they usually get spanked

  2. A football jig with craw trailer definitely one of my favorites to catch fish on there always hogs

  3. spinnerbait dude that deliver and it’s easy to use ! a good prospection lure, crankbait too

  4. Have this exact setup but can’t say how good it is compared to other bait casters, but I don’t enjoy using spinning setups any more. I bird nested a reasonable but annoying amount up front, get good at recovering from them and you will end up loving it.

  5. Look up YouTube videos to dial in your settings to minimize backlash. These are good for throwing lures and heavier things. Still use spinning for light stuff.

Work a chatterbait slowly, don’t forget to throw on a trailer of your choice to mimic baitfish or craws in your area
