So, me and my buddy are new to fishing and started it as a hobby for a few months. I have a zebco rod and reel similar to his, except I am extremely confident that I hold my rod in the correct position, while he is adamant about holding his rod in this position through out the process. A Big 5 employee managed to convince him that this is the way, but I think he was either messing with him or didn’t know what he was talking about. I tried convincing him that he is reeling in inversely and there’s a reason why the drag is set up the way it is, but he’s not budging lol.
What do you guys think? Feel free to roast him, if you feel inclined, it might give him perspective.

Yes, baitcast and spincast rods are meant to be held with the reel facing up.
Push button? If so flip it around like a baitcaster
Didn’t he feel any uncomfort holding the pistol grip and using the push button?
Baitcaster and Spincast (what that is) are meant to be held up. Those are the ones with push buttons on the back. With a pistol style grip (?) your thumb is in position to work the button.
Spinning reels are held below.
You can often swap the side of the reel the handle is on if he likes the left hand retrieve. It takes about a minute for most Spincast and spinning reels
Yep, flip it over
Zebco makes a spincast reel with a trigger that mimics spinning rods. Can’t tell if its one of those from the picture.
