Is the black residue on my new spinning reel shaft normal?

I was doing a quick wipe down on this spinning reel and noticed some black, grimy residue on the main shaft. The reel is only about a month and a half old, but I've been using it every day.
It's a bit greasy to the touch and makes my fingers black. Is this normal wear and tear for the amount of use, or a sign that something is wrong? Is this just dirty grease?
Any advice on how to clean it and what kind of maintenance I should be doing for daily use would help. Thanks! If it helps, its a Abu Garcia Max SX reel.
