Looking for cool goals that aren’t unachievable for a beginner. Only ever fished lake shores and river shores – based in Illinois. Usually fish with live bait and catch bluegill, sunfish, drum and catfish.
I hope the ‘catch my own dinner’ one isn’t too controversial on here – I’ve never killed a fish I’ve caught (deliberately, that I’m aware of) and it’s not something I’m really interested in – I just want to do it at least once.

Hit me up with some cool ideas!

  1. Killing and eating fish is not controversial amongst fishermen.

I would add some that involve traveling:
Go on a deep sea multiple day tuna voyage
    Catch a sturgeon
    Catch a shark

  2. Just make sure to do some research on fish health if you’re gonna eat it. Lots of pollution out there in waterways

  3. Catch something without using a fishing rod
Catch something on a homemade lure
    Bow fish
    Spear fishing while SNORKELING?!?!?
    Fish in a new country
    Fish in a new
    Teach someone else to fish

  4. Fish saltwater. I was a freshwater-only fisherman until two years ago. My first Striped Bass changed that forever. If you want another experience, fish the surf rather than off a dock/pier. The environment with the wind and waves adds another dimension to the sport.
