Picked up this Lamson LP1.5 for $40 because of the personalized engraving. Personally I don't mind the engraving, just adds some fun character. The reel is in perfect condition and seems to be a very durable design.
I'm pretty much brand new to fly fishing and am working to upgrade the literal child's combo I bought from bass pro to see if I liked it. Any suggestions for a rod to pair with this? I am thinking the Redington Classic Trout 9' 5wt.
Also any idea how to tell if the line on it is any good? The seller found this in a storage unit, so no idea how old it is. I did buy some SA Frequency Trout WF-5-F line that basically quadrupled my enjoyment of casting the starter rod, so I've put that on the Lamson, but I would like to put this old line on my old reel to give my buddy a starter setup to try out for himself.
