Hey guys,

I'm leaving for a camping trip in the Uintas in 30 minutes and I want to go fishing. I don't have time to stop by a fly shop so this is what I'm stuck with. Will any of these work up in the Uintas, and how would I fish it?

I'm going to be at Carter Creek and maybe Ruby lake and Provo falls.

I'm not too worried about catching fish since I've only ever gone a couple of times and i barely know how to cast, so I'm treating this as more a learning experience. but if i catch some fish it'll be even better.

Any help is appreciated!

  1. Not anywhere near you but further up in the Rockies, the 2nd and 4th on the top have been very effective recently. I’d stick one of those under a hopper

  2. If it’s a warmer, sunny day, I’d imagine a few of those terrestrials would work pretty well for you. They’re the larger flies with legs, meant to look like bigger bugs such as grass hoppers or flying ants. Specifically I feel like the one in the bottom left of the photo would give good results. Terrestrials are dry flies, so.youre just looking to dead drift them along the surface and set when you see a fish take it.

If you have a solid amount of experience, I would say your best bet is to go with a hopper dropper, using one of those terrestrials as an indicator and tying a nymph on below it. That being said, I’m hazarding a guess that might be a bit too tricky to try if you’re unfamiliar with the types of flies here
