So I'm trying to make a travel fishing kit but after putting my 3000 series reel on my 6ft6 rod I feel like its a bit large for travel and so i might switch to a 1000 to 1500 series reel to be more compact with my travel kit but I dont know if its a good match for the length of my rod and line cap.
Ps. Rod power is med light and yes its a pen rod ik it sucks but I like it bec I dont have to get a rod case.

Go fish with either combo and see what’s best. I’d go for a 1500 or 2000 for a travel rod like that. 1000 if it’s an ultralight.
Most important consideration for me is balance. Hold the rod with one finger just ahead of the reel seat. If the rod tip swings up, the reel is too heavy. If it dips towards the ground, the reel is too light. If it more or less balances, then the combo is good to go. A balanced rod / reel combo will cast well.
