It only took a handful of nights and hours of research to learn about them and how to catch them. Ironically, after all that I was using my collapsible micro light rod with 2lb test line to catch bait next to the marina docks where the light floods into the depths.

I caught a bluegill, put in my bait bucket, and still had a chunk of worm left so I flicked it back out. As it slowly sank into the light the rod almost got yanked out of my hands. It pulled line like crazy and I gently played the fish up to the side of my kayak. I was going to grab the net, but it just rolled onto its side and I lipped it. Got a quick selfie and it swam off strong as soon as it was back in the water.

It was about 16/18” long and probably 1-2 lbs, I didn’t bother weighing or measuring it. I didn’t want to keep it out of the water any longer than necessary.

Can anyone tell me if it’s a striper or a hybrid? Also, how do I tell the difference in the future?
