I’m having trouble with this one here, the top of the head likes to slide down and I’m not sure if I’m piercing it correctly towards the end of the hook? I’ve watched a few mins but they all make it seem so easy?

What I’m I doing wrong here and how bad does this look?

  1. You need to put the hook in through the belly and out the back. Currently you have the hook on the outside and are just jamming it into the back

  2. You want to slid the end of the hook through the head and rig it so that it is inside the swimbait on both sides.

I don’t have a photo on my phone here else I would link it.

Swimbaits have a tendency to ‘keel’ over and require a weight to.properly swim. The general consensus seems to be the weighted ewg hooks that have the sinker on the bottom.

  3. First, that hook setup is weird. The weight appears to be in the shape of a minnow head so if I were using that setup I’d probably pinch off the head of the soft plastic so that it has better continuity. But really, I’d recommend getting a proper swimbait hook with a weight built in to the shank of the hook. Bonus points if you can find one with the little soft plastic screw attached to the hook eye.

Second, to attach it correctly, it looks like you got the head about right except you may have let the hook exit a little too far down, that’s why it’s sliding down. The rear section is incorrect. See where the curve of the hook is exposed next to the soft plastic? Just get that directly in the bottom center of the bait exactly where you can see it overlayed and feed it out through the top center of the bait and the hook will lay flat on top of the plastic. Then you can insert the tip of the hook just under the “skin” to make it weedless.
