I’m new to fly fishing and don’t know what all is what yet. All I do know is that when I’m getting skunked, I throw this guy on the line and it catches a fish 90% of the time when nothing else is biting. I don’t know what it’s called because I got it with a fly box full of flies from a thrift store. It’s my only one, so I’d like to know what it’s called so o can buy more.

That it?
Similar flies are woolly worms and woolly buggers.
Midge cluster
Looks like a large Griffith’s Gnat. Maybe a size 14? Which is not a typical size for me.
Looks like a crackle back
Griffiths gnat.
Griffith gnat. With a tail, would be a halfback nymph.
A large Griffith’s Gnat. This is a “Goto”fly to have in your fly box. It imitates a midge cluster.
I tie these from #18-22. I used to tie these down to #24 and 26. I can’t see them to tie on the tippet😬.
Take it to your local fly shop before you lose it
I love Eagle Claw. I have an old one I got at a thrift store. Sometimes I set the pricier rods aside and fish that wonderful slow action. They are the working-angler’s rod and they do the job well.
Leave it to Reddit to never give a universal answer to anything. I have no idea what that is called but it’s either a crackle back, midge cluster, or Griffith gnat. Or something else. Who knows at this point
