Hi all. My son and I are one year in to fly fishing. Canoeing the upper Au Sable this weekend, and looking to catch and cook a rainbow or 2, as they are the only realistic option with open possession season. The first day is flies only, 2nd day after lunch we can use ultralight spinning if we choose. Any advice on techniques or flies to increase our chances on bows? Ive only fished this stretch with flies on spinning tackle before, and only caught browns. Im sure i can condense these 3 fly boxes into one.. which ones should I bring? It's hard for me to just pick a random fly and send it, confidently. Also, any advice on fly fishing from a canoe on a river? Think we'll take turns. I'd imagine sneaking up on a fish would be tough when they see ya coming 50 yards away in a big red boat, no? Thanks guys / gals! BTW we have a 6wt and 5wt, as well as UL spinning. Cheers and happy trouting!
