Hey Everyone. My female betta lives in a 20 gal community tank with shrimp, snails, and rasboras (1st pic). The rasboras and shrimp eat this nano food (2nd pic), which, from the looks of it, is fine for her to eat but probs not as her main diet? When I had her in her own tank she was eating this betta food (3rd pic and only like 2 or 3 pellets) but since I've switched her to the community tank, she spits out the betta food and will only eat the nano food alongside the rasboras. She doesn't bully or anything (usually), she just eats like she's a part of the pack lol. I also have this food (4th pic) that my crowntail eats from his last home, but it's too big for her mouth. I feed them (my 3 bettas) bloodworms on tuesdays and brine shrimp on fridays for lunch (I skip feeding on wednesdays) and she eats those, but I'm worried she's not getting all the nutrients she needs. I also have shrimp in there and she might catch the occasional baby neocardinia, but not too often. Help and/or suggestions are much appreciated.

Mine had been eating micro pellets in her community tank as well. I figured if she was eating those anyway then there was no reason to double feed her with regular pellets. It’s been a couple months of that and I haven’t had any issues other than she still looks fat because she eats so many of them and I’m sure whatever baby shrimp she can catch.

I feed everything that nano fish food. The fish/shrimp/snails love it. I mean it’s not their main fish food, but it’s part of the rotation. I think since she’s getting frozen foods twice a week, I think she’ll be just fine eating the nano food. Northfin has a betta food that’s really small pellets. The aquarium co-op floating fish food is also small enough for a betta. My Betta eats both of those.

Just wanted to clarify, I feed them all lunch (2-4pm) and dinner (9-10pm) every day, except I skip meals all together on wednesdays to allow for digestion and reduce bloating. Males get pellets and female gets nano food. Tuesdays they get bloodworms for lunch and brine shrimp for lunch on fridays. Dinner is always pellets so they get all the nutrients and stuff they need, but thats why I’m worried abt my female cause she isn’t eating pellets. I’m probs overdoing it but I want them to be well taken care of cause I was just thrown into betta keeping with no experience 😭 I’m trying my best

  4. Aqueon and tetra food sucks, theyre full of fillers and very little in nutrition. I highly recommend feeding frozen food like mysis shrimp and brine shrimp as a staple diet.

  5. My boy Tom, refused tetra betta pellets. Ate tetra flakes unenthusiasticly. Really likes mosquito larvae and learned to like fruit flies. HIKARI MICRO Pellets is his favorite dry food. Good luck 👍

It’s definitely not ideal as their main diet. Tiny pellets pass through the digestive tract quicker which is bad for nutrient retention.

It also takes a *lot* of these tiny granules to equate to even a single 1mm pellet. The site says it’s 0.1-0.2mm. Assuming they’re spherical, it takes 100+ of these granules to = 1 single 1mm pellet. So unless you are feeding hundreds of these to your betta, he’s not getting sufficient nutrients.

If nothing else works you can try Fluval Bug Bites and/or Betta Bio-gold. Or Xtreme Betta which you can order from the Aquarium co op site. In my experience these are the most palatable dry foods.
