Hello my friends. Ive been fishing this lake for about the past two months. Mostly hunting for bass, but ill take anything I can get. I dont have a depth finder, so mostly been sticking to coves, shorelines and any sort of brush/cover i can find with my eyes.

Ive tried Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jerkbaits, texas rig with rubber worms and some others im sure im missing, but the point is ive literally hooked nothing. Gotten some bites here or there, but nothing caught. I genuinely dont know what im doing wrong. If it helps, im in Western North Carolina and trying to fish early in the morning around 7ish until about 12ish, changing my approach as the weather warms.

Any advice is welcome and appreciated. Thanks my friends

  1. Try adding beer to your toolkit. You’ll always catch something if you do, either a buzz or a buzz and fish.

It’s getting colder so as the surface water gets cooler the deeper water actually is warmer by comparison. If you’re fishing cover where small bait fish are and no bites you may need to try deeper or even mid lake where there are deeper drop offs or holes.

Try drop shot/ned rig/shakeyhead and use bright colors to stand out in the dark deep water. Fish these way slower than you expect you’d need to. Do maybe a little half crank then wait 5 to 15 seconds between cranks. Don’t pop the rod hard or anything either, if you’re in a boat you can do that as you’re slowly drifting around, or even just straight up and down jigging.

If you have some casting weights, string, and some ewg or octopus hooks you got everything you need to tie your own drop shot rig. Use some 3 to 5 inch worms and try it out.

Try fishing the banks more and instead of night crawlers use red wigglers. Here lately I’ve had way more fun and catching with just a bobber, #10l hook and worm than anything.
