Is this a rainbow? I’m starting to think it’s a smallmouth 😂

Doesn’t look like a rainbow. What part of the world are you in? What body of water?

Forked tail and location makes me believe this is an Atlantic Salmon

It was caught in the Farmington River in Connecticut. He was about 10″, so I let him go. Thought it was a rainbow, but colors looked weird. Thought I was something with the lighting, but I think salmon are illegal in my state, so good thing I let home go

No matter the state, in Southern New England if this atlantic salmon is naturally produced it is a very rare fish. Did you catch it in the Connecticut river? IF it is a sea run it is probably of interest to state fisheries biologists in whatever state you are in. I would notify them of this catch. If you are fishing in a Lake Champlain tributary or something like that less so. Forgive me if those dont qualify as southern New England, im just a salmon loving Oregonian who follows Atlantic salmon recovery efforts from afar hoping for them to succeed.
