Please don’t be too harsh but I just purchased my first bait caster and realized after lining and tying on a bait that I probably wasnt supposed go through this loop?

That loop is a hook keeper and your line should not go thru it. 🤙

Did the same thing on my first fly rod, never had a hook keeper on a rod before lol.

No worries! That’s how you learn. The first time I put line on my new Garcia Mitchell 300 (in 1968) I somehow wound it on backwards. I never made that mistake, again.

Is it a full loop or is there a break at the bottom? If there is a break, you can pass the line under.
How in the bass pro shops you manage….you know what..I don’t want to know 😒

Don’t worry! I did the same thing for the first while with my rod (beginner). Finally clued in to change things up because I couldn’t cast consistently. Took the line out of that loop and then had an enjoyable time.
