3 poles and 3 broken tips. One broke on an ultra light casting hard other 2 in snags it sucks because I just bought the 6’6 medium action ozark trail pole today for 30 bucks. I trimmed the nub off and am running it. Am I doing something wrong and at this point I think I’m just gonna run the poles like that. Do the more expensive rods not break like that or am I just being too rough?

  1. If you snag set the pole down and pull the line itself. Don’t use lures too heavy for your rod.

  2. Rod tips are delicate- treat them accordingly. If you get snagged point the rod directly at the snag so it’s straight and then pull using the line (not rod or reel).

Did you throw lures over the weight range of the rod when you broke the ultralight casting it? The 2 broken in snags you should have put the rod down and wrapped your line around a stick or your pliers or anything else and pulled that not using your rod to pull. Any rod will break like that. More expensive rods will break just as easily maybe easier if you’re abusing them like that.

I normally don’t recommend Ugly Stik, but you are a prime target market for an Ugly Stik rod. They’re indestructible, I’ve slammed my car door on the tip segment of one and didn’t break it.
