Hey all! I was given some older flies from my grandfather. I'm still new to this, so I'm not sure the names of what I've got. I asked him, and he said "they're flies, for fly fishing!" (Thanks Grandpa lol) I did my best to organize them based on looks. Thank you!

That’s a solid assortment. Take them to your local shop and ask, you will get way more information there. Then tie them on and see what works. You have to fish them to really know what they are.

  2. Someone with more knowledge than me will be able to weigh in more, but the 3rd from the bottom on the right in the first photo are pheasant tail nymphs. The worm looking ones on the last pic are San Juan worms I think. The colorful poofy one in the last pic is an egg pattern. The bottom left on the last pic look like hares ear nymphs and I think the ones above those are copper John’s. Looks like some elk hair caddis in the top row of the second pic

  3. Don’t know them all but I’ll throw out what I recognize. The top row of the second page looks like a bunch of elk hair caddis. The four on the third page that have a split tail are prince nymphs. The worms below them are San Juan worms.

  4. From what I recognize:

Third row from the bottom on the first pic are Adams Dry Flys as well as Pheasant Tail Nymphs. The black fly in the corner imitates an ant, and is also a dry fly. There also looks to be some hoppers in that mix.

Edit: The fly right of center that has different colored hackle on both sides (red/white) is a renegade. The fly beside the ant is a Parachute Adams (these are great!).

The first row on the second pic are Elk Hair Caddis. It also looks like there are some hoppers on this pic as well. All of these on this side are dry flies.

And the third photo there is a row of BH Prince Nymphs, with two BH Hare’s Ears Nymphs. The fluffy pom poms are egg imitations while the worms are well worm imitations.

  5. Elk hair caddis and price nymphs? Your relative has left you everything you need. Get out there and catch some fish.
