So I recently got this half moon betta and bought a little tank that said it was for betta fish and when I got home from work today my sister told me she found him on the counter. The only way I see that could happen is that he got sucked through the filter. His fins are kind of torn up and he keeps swimming up towards the surface and hanging out there. Is he in pain? Should I put him out of his misery or idk help me.

What kinda filter do you have that sucks up a beta and spits him out on the counter ?.
Lots and lots of tannins, get some mopani wood. Also get some seachem stressguard for the slime coat that got messed up by him hanging out on the counter. Monitor him, maybe lower the water for the time being so he can get up and breathe easier.
