I had one of my seat straps tear at the mounting bolt on the end, but luckily I own a bartack machine.
The old straps seemed like there was just a hole drilled for the bolt to go through, but I melted holes in the webbing for eyelets to fit for the bolts on the new one.
Is it normal for seat straps to not have eyelets like that?

I have the same kayak. Over the past 2 summers, I’ve made similar repairs, attempting to melt a hole. That hole eventually develops a tear. Late this summer I moved to paracord with figure 8 on a bite loops on each end for the bolt to go through only bad thing is that it is not adjustable. But thus far, I’ve had no issues. I guess you could replace the top bolt with an eye hook and use a carabiner to fasten the cord so at least you could unhook and lay the seat flat for transport.
