Title says it, I think my female laid eggs and built a bubble nest? I’ve been watching her all morning and she’s constantly swimming around to pick up anything that falls from her bubble nest, quickly putting it back into place.
I didn’t think females could lay eggs without a male? Second picture you can see the “eggs” pretty good.

What you’re seeing is actually possible, female bettas can sometimes lay eggs without a male present, and in rare cases they may even build a rudimentary bubble nest and “guard” the eggs. The eggs just won’t be fertilized and will never hatch. Normally, only male bettas build and care for nests, but some females show this instinct too, especially if they’re very mature or in a tank by themselves.
As long as she looks healthy and active this isn’t harmful, and it’s actually pretty interesting to watch 🙂 Just remove any eggs if they start to rot, to avoid water quality issues.
