My boy occasionally greets me with a big flare (where's my food!)
Would it make him feel good about himself if I go away after he he "scares" me?
Or give him a treat?

i think it’s just because it saw it’s reflection in the glass, bettas are very territorial any sign of a fish even it’s own reflection can cause it to flare it’s nothing to worry about your betta just had a scare.

  2. He’ll be okay! Flaring is healthy in little doses. If they’re constantly doing it, especially on the glass, look into putting up a piece of black posterboard on part of the glass or changing the light color.

Depends on the Betta. My first betta, Adonis, would flare at me when he thought I wasn’t looking, then would swim off and hide if I looked at him. It was our favorite thing. With my new Bettas, they don’t flare often, and I just point at them when they do and they get all upset lmao.
