  1. I don’t know that rod, but that’s a very solid deal. If you bought from a sporting store that box and flies would run you $120.

  2. Yes that’s about as cheap as you can get into a fly rod kit for and much better than the one that Costco sells for 150

TFO is an awesome brand! Fished it a bunch before I upgraded all my equipment a few years back.

  4. The TFO combo sold for about $220, so not a bad deal. If the drag functions well, with little resistance backed off, and then stout when cranked down, with a linear progression, it’s likely good to go. If the reel is on the rod correctly (right-hand retrieve) there’s info on the web on how to switch it back, if needed. I cast right-handed and use my left hand to reel in.

  5. Definitely a good deal especially if this is a backup rod. I’ve found most of the TFO rods I’ve tried to be good stout rods—perfect for fighting good sized fish. The flybox is a nice bonus too.

  6. Absolutely horrible deal. Please DM me the seller’s address so I can go over there and yell at them.

  7. I have this exact setup almost as a back up rod I loan out to people. I bought new and paid much more than $125. The rod itself is a solid rod.

I say almost because the reel is not great. I used it as a primary rod fishing heavy for a year. There is another post here about checking the reel especially the drag. I may have just ended up with a lemon on the reel, but after fishing hard for big bass in the Midwest, the reel was done. The drag, the gears were destroyed, and the handle itself was attached to a cheap metal which stripped out.

I removed the backing and line, tossed it on a close out lamson reel. The rod continues to be great, even though not my primary set up today. For $125 on a back up, solid choice!
